OBJECTIVE
The objective of Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) is to provide high quality management education to develop outstanding scholars for careers in teaching and research at leading business schools and universities. The programme of study builds on the powerful tradition at NIMT. The Institute currently offers fellowship programme in following areas in specialization:

  • Business Policy & Strategic Management
  • Economics
  • Finance management
  • Human Behaviour & Organisation Development
  • Human Resource Management
  • Information Management
  • Marketing Management
  • Operations Management

 

The FPM is a residential programme and would take approximately three and a half to four years to complete. During this period, students are expected to undergo course work and submit a thesis at the end of the programme. The programme commences on 2nd July 2005. However, students exempt from PGDMT yesr may be asked to join the programme of August 2005.

Course Work
The first phase has been designed to provide essential exposure to various areas of management. This basic input is followed by a series of doctoral level courses and other educational activities. In the second phase to prepare the student for a teacher researcher role before he/she embarks on a place of doctoral level independent research, which is expected to result in original contribution to the existing stock of knowledge. 

PHASE – 1
This phase of course work comprises three terms of three months each. To get substantial exposure to  various sub-areas of management and a first hand experience of Post-Graduate Management Education, the student is required to go through the compulsory courses in the Post-Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM) at the Institute. Details of courses in the tree terms are given below.

In addition to the compulsory course for PGPM, requisite elective courses would be designed for each FPM student to start the process of developing a deeper appreciation of knowledge base in his/her field of specialization.

ECEMPTION
A student with a Post-Graduate degree or diploma in management from the top-level institutions in India or abroad may by granted exemption from phase-I of the course work. Other students would be granted exemption from particular courses based on their background and knowledge on a case-to-case basis.

 

PHASH-II
This is the heart of the coursework to prepare the student of be serious in the field of management with special emphasis on his/her area of specialization and related areas of interest. This phase also comprises three terms of three months each. In this phase, the student undertakes three kinds of courses/ activities. These are FPM Compulsory Courses

The compulsory courses are aimed at two basic skills required for the teacher-researcher role. First, the student must become adept at conducting high quality research using the latest available quantitative and qualitative research methodologies for the persistent and emergent management problem in his/her area of specialization. Thus, there shall be one or two advanced courses on research methodologies and technologies. There shall therefore,  be courses on communication and pedagogy. Student would also take an advance course on Business Policy and Strategic Management to tie together their exposure to various functional management courses. 

 

FPM Electives
The elective courses are designed to male the student familiar with the historical and emergent theoretical developments in their areas of specialization and related areas of interest. Through these structured courses, students are expected of develop high level intellectual skills to critically examine the theoretical developments and contribute to a debate on these subjects. The programme would require six such courses from each students, four from the area of specialization and two from areas of related interest.

INDEPENDENT STUDY AND CASE WRITING
The thrust of academic activity comprises on courses of independent study which would be aimed at developing sound research propositions in chosen issues of problems of management and testing them through pilot research. It would be expected that this work would lead to a publishable research paper. Case writing, on the other hand, provides a challenging opportunity to immerse oneself in a live managerial situation and document its learning and teaching potential in the form of a teaching-case.It also helps to develop a scholar to contribute to educational material in the form to teaching cases which form the most important learning methodology in management education.

COMPREHENSIVE ASSESSMENT
At the completion of all the requirements of course work, the student would have to go through a comprehensive assessment through a written and oral examination. This is to check a scholar’s multi-disciplinary appreciation of management as a domain of knowledge and his/her readiness to undertake original research to address current issues and concerns in the field.

THESIS PROPOSAL
The work of doing a piece of original research starts with the student’s choice of a thesis under guidance of the Chairperson, who shares a common interest with the student, and other members of thesis committee.

The student works with the committee to formulate a research design that leads to the creation of a thesis proposed. The proposal is then presented in an open seminar. The Thesis Committee gives a go-ahead to the student.

THESIS
Work on the thesis is the culminating phase of the fellow programme. The work is expected to provide a distinct contribution to the knowledge to the subject and should offer evidence of originality, shown by the discovery of new facts and by the exercise of independent critical power. This would require either original theoretical work or empirical work with primary or secondary data. The thesis work amounts to the preparation of a research monograph establishing its author as a person who can speak with authority in the field.

Before submitting the thesis for final examination, the student would give an open seminar for comments and suggestions in the presence of the chairperson of the Thesis Committee. After incorporating any suggestions from the open seminar, the student would seek approval of members of the Thesis Committee.

THESIS EXAMINATION
Once the Thesis Committee has approved the thesis, Chairman (FPM) would appoint a Thesis Examination Committee. The committee would undertake an exhaustive and vigorous oral examination of the candidate. In case the thesis is not rejected outright, the thesis would be accepted either in the submitted form or certain modification might be asked for, which will have to be incorporated before the final acceptance.

THE FINAL REQUIREMENT
The critical study, thinking and research undertaken by the fellow Programme student during the programme is expected to provide basis for articles in referred academic journals. One of the objectives to the programme is to educate scholars who would be ready to contribute in this manner, Hence, the final requirement for qualifying for the title to the fellow is to have at least two articles accepted for publication in referred journals.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT
NIMT is looking for candidates with a consistently good academic record, professional accomplishments and a strong urge to contribute to the process of knowledge creation and dissemination in the field of management. Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a Master’s degree is any basic discipline with a minimum of 55% marks in the qualifying examination. Those with professional experience will have an advantage.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE
Admission to the programme is a two-step process. Candidates who wish to be considered for the fellow programme are invited to submit a detailed application in the prescribed form, available from the Institute clearly spelling out the motivation for joining the programme and the area of research interest. The admission Committee with a view to ensuring a reasonable fit between the programme and individual research interests will screen the application. All short listed candidates will be called to campus for the test and interview process for final selection.

APPLICATION FROM
The application from can be obtained on payment of a Demand Draft for Rs.500/- in favour of “ National Institute of Management &Technology” (Payable at Ghaziabad) towards application.

REFUND

In case a selected candidate withdraws or is asked to withdraw from the programme, for any reason, his/her fee would be forfeited, except for the refundable security. Dispute would be settled within the jurisdiction of Ghaziabad courts.
